Fronted by hometown hero and vocalist extraordinaire Shantel Norman, Jah Movement plays top 40, Funk, Soul, R&B and Calypso Dance music. Bring your lawn chair or blanket, take in the music along with the beautiful Sarasota sunset and enjoy food and beverage from local vendors. Outside food and drink is prohibited. June 23 - July 4, 2018: One of the biggest Sarasota happenings of the year is the Suncoast Offshore Powerboat Racing Festival. The Festival is held annually. This race between million-dollar cigarette boats off one of our finest Gulf of Mexico Beaches is one of the must-see Sarasota happenings of the year. June 9 - 10, 2018: The 17th annual St. Armand's Craft Festival is held around circle park. You may view and purchase all kinds of artistic works from over 175 artisans with everything from paintings to jewelry, ceramics, pottery and much more. It's a fun event to stroll along through and look at all the uniquely creative ideas on display. St. Armand's Circle is just over the Ringling Bridge from downtown Sarasota. It's free and there's lots of free parking too. It's from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. both days.

June 10, 2018: It's Sharky's Sunset Beach Bash to celebrate being voted #1 on a list of Top Florida Beach Bars. The celebration will include free drink samples, food and drink specials, and much more fun. The event will also feature live music. Tickets are $5 and proceeds will be donated to Venice Area Beautification Inc. and Mote Marine Laboratory. 5 p.m. - Sunset. Sharky’s on the Pier, 1600 Harbor Drive South in Venice, FL.

Performers this year are, on Saturday: Nostaljah, Hard Luck Society, Kettle of Fish and Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues.  Sunday performers are: Act 3, RJ Howson, Sarasota Steel Pan Band and Twinkle & Rock Soul Radio. There will also be a marketplace of arts and crafts exhibitors and select from a variety of fine products. While at the event, the Humane Society, co-sponsor, will have their "Big Mac" mobile adoption center onsite. Free general admission. VIP tent admission $130. Various food & drink prices. May 26, 2018A program honoring America's fallen soldiers and their families will take place in honor of Memorial Day at Sarasota National Cemetery with special guests and dignitaries. Purple Heart recipient David Taylor will be the key note speaker. Taylor is a US Army veteran. Local artists will perform a medley of patriotic music as the lives of fallen troops are honored and remembered. Patriot Plaza has ample seating, however, visitors may bring lawn chairs should they prefer seating with a back. Ceremonies will begin at 10:00 a.m. Free admission. May 27, 2018: It's the special "A Tribute to Heroes" Memorial Day Parade on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday evening. The parade will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Local bands and choir groups, drum lines and dance teams, floats, kids decorated bike contest, food, drinks and live entertainment. There will also be before and after parade festivities. Pre-parade block party starts at 6 p.m. with the street festivities continuing after the parade. Main Street, Lakewood Ranch, FL

May 28, 2018: The 2018 Sarasota Memorial Day Parade's theme is: "All Gave Some. Some Gave All." 130 band members from Blair High School from Omaha, Nebraska will join in the parade and the Sarasota Military Academy will represent local area high schools. The following units will participate in the parade: City of Sarasota Police Color Guard, Sarasota County Sheriff's Color Guard, Sarasota County Fire Department Color Guard, EMS units, Vets on Bikes, American Legion Post 30, VFW Post 3233, DAV Chapters 3 and 97, Vet Center, Vietnam Veterans, Goodwill/USF Veterans, MIA/USF Veterans, Veterans for Common Sense, Sun Coast Retirees, Pear Harbor Survivor Capt. Robert O'Neil, Local Dignitaries, SAR/DAR, Ex-POW's, Woman Navy Veterans, WWII Female Veterans, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Red Cross, MOA group. The Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee encourages all Sarasota  residents to line Main Street as we recognize the sacrifices, courage, and patriotism demonstrated by our Viet Nam Veterans. Parade organizers are hoping for an Air Force fly over at 10 a.m. The parade starts at exactly 10 a.m. from Osprey and Main in Sarasota. There will be a fitting Memorial Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at Chaplain J. D. Hamel Park at the West end of Main Street. 

May 28, 2018: Snook Haven along with the Suncoast Blues Society present the 7th Annual Myakka River Blues Festival on Memorial Day. This year's headliner is The Rusty Wright Band from Michigan. The lineup also includes The Dale Robbins Band from Australia, Harmonica Wizard Dockta D from Baltimore, Sarasota Slim, Nitro Boseman and many more.  Snook Haven is off the beaten path, near the riverbed in a natural cove with true old Florida ambiance. Two stages with non-stop music. Tickets: $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door. 11a.m.- 6 p.m. Snook Haven Restaurant on the Myakka River. 5000 E Venice Ave, Venice, FL

May 5, 2018: Here's your chance to be one of the first to check out a brand new festival. It's the inaugural Sarasota Veg Fest! The new event will feature environmentally friendly vendors and exhibitors, vegan food, food demos, yoga classes, live music, a scavenger hunt, animal rescue groups and more. Free admission. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sarasota County Fairgrounds, 3000 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, FL.

May 5, 2018: Bring your pail, shovel, sunglasses and creativity to Siesta Key Public Beach on for the Annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest. The contest, traditionally held the first Saturday of May, is held near the Pavilion on the beautiful white sandy Siesta Public Beach. Free and open to all ages of participation, the Siesta Sand Sculpture Contest also awards five cash prizes and is one of our very popular happenings for both locals and visitors on our Escape to Sarasota Calendar of Events. 

May 5, 2018: It's the 21st year for Corvettes on the Circle taking place on St. Armand’s Circle. Running from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. this show will feature present day models back to the classics of 1953. Over 200 pristine & original Class Corvettes will be on display in the Circle Park. Trophies will be awarded to the top three Corvettes in each generational class as well as Best in Show. Awards ceremony at 3 p.m. It's free.

May 5 - 6, 2018: It's the inaugural Venice Seafood & Music Festival taking place in Centennial Park featuring seafood, meat and vegetarian delights prepared fresh on site by local Sarasota restaurants along with drinks. Enjoy your foodie experience while jamming to live musical performances on stage by some of Florida’s and the region’s top musical talents. Music will be from such genres and R&B, jazz, rock, reggae and Caribbean sounds. This year’s performers are, on Saturday: 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. RJ Howson, 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. Kettle of Fish, 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. the Sarasota Steel Pan Band and 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Twinkle & Rock Soul Radio. April 27, 2018: It's the season's final Music in the Park at the Riverwalk in Bradenton. Bring a picnic basket, blankets or chairs, and your furry companions on leashes to the Bradenton Riverwalk Mosaic Amphitheater and enjoy the show — Scott Blum Jazz Ensemble, for free! April 28 - 29, 2018: It's the always popular 40th annual Siesta Fiesta which takes place in Siesta Key Village from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. It's sort of a farewell party for all of our “snowbird” friends from the colder climates of the northern U.S, Canada and afar, who come to be with us in Sarasota throughout the winter season. It's one of the most awaited fests of the year and it's on my April Sarasota Events Calendar for you to enjoy. 

 April 28 - 29, 2018: The beginning of a new celebration of the visual arts in Lakewood Ranch – the premiere of the Lakewood Ranch Fine Art Festival.  Find original handmade artwork to enrich your life and beautify your home and office. Artwork by local, regional and national artisans. Works in painting, sculpture, jewelry, glass and ceramics, photography, fiber and wearable art to mixed-media, metalwork, woodworking and more will be on display. April 28, 2018: Enjoy the De Soto Heritage Festival Grand Parade, a parade for all ages to see, which steps off at 6:30 p.m., with over 150 parade entries, from Manatee H.S. in Bradenton, then goes west on 9th avenue, north along 39th street to Manatee avenue, then turning east headed toward downtown to 9th street. About 200,000 are expected to view the festive parade, the largest parade in the region. 

 April 29, 2018: It's the 16th Annual "Ride The Beaches" scenic bike rides sponsored by Sharky's on the Pier. There's a 70 mile, 35 mile and 15 mile ride. Check in and breakfast starts at 6:00 a.m. The 70 mile ride starts at 7:30 a.m. The 35 mile ride begins at 8 a.m. The 15 mile ride begins at 9 a.m. There's a full lunch served from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The ride benefits the Live Strong Foundation. $40 registration. 6 am - 2 p.m. Sharky's is at 1600 Harbor Drive on Venice Island.
