SOUTHWEST FLORIDA — Sarasota, no stranger to those ubiquitous “best of” lists, just topped another one.
The city of Sarasota was named No. 1 on the new “best places to retire in Florida” report by personal finance web site WalletHub.
Sarasota ranked first for quality of life and for health care and finished eighth for activities, the three general areas on which cities were graded.
Bradenton came in 10th and ranked third for both quality of life and activities, but landed in 28th for health care.
North Port was rated 39th overall, with a respectable 15th place for activities, and 37th for quality of life, but a near-bottom grade of 106th for health care.
Port Charlotte ranked in the middle at 56th. Rated 13th for quality of life, 40th for activities and second-to-last at 110th for health care, despite a top ranking for most family and general physicians per capita.
